up an oil spill in a north bay river and why an endangered wildlife might be at risk. claim to a top of a skyscraper we will tell you who was waiting at the top and three workers at a bay area amusement park here for their lives. complete bay area news coverage starts right now. this is bay area news at 7:00. >> good evening, it is monday, september 6 created i am i am gasia mikaelian. we begin tonight with developing news in the north bay. crews are still at the scene of an oil spill. putting wildlife potentially at risk in jana katsuyama is life with an update on how the cleaning operation is going with oh gasia, we are right

next to the petaluma river and i saw a little bit of a sheen going across the top of the river and over there by the bridge on washington street you can see that way boom they put up there and officials tell us that anywhere from 200 up to 600 gallons of oil they believed was spilled into the petaluma river they put up this containment boom to keep it from spreading into new areas while they try and clean up this mess. a official say this is what caused the oil spill, a 90-ton tugboat sticking out of the petaluma river making gallons of oil from its hole and they discovered that spill after getting a call at 8:18 this morning's. >> we noticed a large dark substance this morning. >> reporter: eye this afternoon to sheen had sped along a two and a half mile stretch of the river and they put down booms and put pads into the water to soak up the

mess. the california department of fish and game says the river does have endangered wildlife such as salmon and frog's. >> we have identified three areas of large to normal concern that being adobe creek in the area around the alice creek treatment plant. >> near the spill site crews tore apart of the boat investigators say an alameda- based company had been dismantling the tub for scrap metal. they had one boom around the boat and they do not know how long it was leaking oil or whether they have proper permits. >> i had no indication that the fire department was informed of this operation but come monday that will come about. >> reporter: they did warn holiday borders at marina and other docs of. >> there is a lot of voting going around, i would not going to water but it's a nice river. >> reporter: so far they have had no support of oiled birds

or water -- or wildlife and it will be monitoring the situation overnight and will resume cleanup efforts tomorrow morning. reporting live in petaluma, jana katsuyama, k. to. >> a man scaled a 60 story building late this afternoon and police arrested him just after he finished his klein. he is a daredevil who calls himself "skyscaperman" print he is known for stunts and have scaled the tallest building in the us that used to be called the sears tower in chicago. officers were waiting for him at the top of the williams tower today. they probably took him into custody but not before he unfurled an american flag preaching made the climb using ropes and suction cups. police are investigating the body of a man that was

found. there was a large pool party at the hotel and some 400 people were at that party. police say they heard shots but did not see exactly what happened. the body of the 26 old man was found in some bushes behind the hotel on gateway boulevard. police say he was from the antioch brentwood area. investigators are back at it two days sifting through mounds of trash searching for any signs of frederick seles. the 35-year-old man is a missing man who says it may be that they think victim in a string of killings and may have met the same fate done that three of his father in the search could go on for the next few days. a two year old boy is hospitalized after being hit by a car in sonoma county. he was struck shortly past noon in the parking lot of a taqueira and he was taken to the children's hospital with injuries described as major.

armed robbers terrified workers at six flags discovery kingdom in vallejo and now as rob roth reports investigators are trying to determine if it was inside job. >> reporter: the robbery happened inside six flags at about 11:00 p.m. last night hours after the park had closed the. >> two are the subjects were dressed with a black hooded sweatshirts and they have a bandanna up over the top of their faces so you cannot see what they looked like. they were armed with semiautomatic handguns. >> reporter: investigators say that they had picked a lock in an employee area and scaled a fence and pointed their guns at three employees who were gathering banks of cash receipts and yelled at them's. >> get down on the ground, get down on the ground! >> reporter: they say yesterday was a busy day here in park officials say there are no surveillance cameras but perhaps nearby. >> we were told that there were

some surveillance cameras in the park and we are looking to see if they have been able to capture the subjects i don't. >> reporter: investigators are not sure whether the armed robbery was an inside job but they didn't seem to know a lot about the operations here. this is the second time in about six weeks that six flags was the victim of a robbery. in july a holdup of awkward and money was taken. six flags says it is reviewing its security procedures here. the former ceo of hewlett- packard became the resident of oracle today. mark hurd will report to the ceo and oracle founder preheat was fired last month after a sexual harassment investigation pg has been one of his strongest defenders. and the former ebay ceo meg whitman has received the endorsement of the california chamber of congress and led the

president of the university of california to suspend his membership in the chancellor of the states committee college system to resign from the board. the two men say they are against the chamber getting involved in electoral policy. labor day traditionally a day in which candidates step up their efforts to get elected and this is no different for the democratic nominee for governor. jerry brown stopped by a picnic in alameda and launched his first television advertisement today. his republican opponent meg whitman has been running advertisements since june and has spent more than $100 million of her own money paid in the state starting today voters will start to see more of both candidate's. >> they can start to see more tv ads that he or she wants to. >> they added that while

whitman can outspend brown, brown's name recognition should keep him in the race. union workers are gathered for an annual labor day picnic. unions have reportedly spent more than $1 million on brown's behalf this year and they traditionally get the backing of unions. you can find much more election coverage, click the tab on our homepage at ktvu.com. the state budget is now more than two months over two and today there were no signs that anything will get done soon. a week long ban inside the assembly expired but there was not too much to see you lawmakers were gone for the holiday and are expected to return what's the governor calls a special section done accession on the budget. the president lashed out at republicans on this labor day speaking to a crowd of some 10,000 union workers and supporters. he was in full campaign mode on behalf of congressional democrats as he spoke to the

longer afford to eat there. the restaurant has also posted signs stating that there is a 30 minute limit for people to eat their food in the restaurant's. >> i believe it is targeting homeless people and have been homeless people eat at mcdonald's does not bother me a bit. they scrape together with pennies they have, and if this is the only place they can afford to beat or if they want to be cured that is what the hate is all about. >> the owner of that mcdonald's told the san francisco chronicle the elimination of the dollar menu was a business decision and had nothing to do with the homeless people. a bay area theater is accompanying -- applauding their return of a bell that went missing six years ago paid for 50 years the solid brass bell was used to send audiences back to their seats but it disappeared into thousand four. then last week a construction worker found it at a salvage yard and connected it to the

bz9691010e. the random samples of the treats tested by the food and drug administration indicated a presence of salmonella bacteria. foster city is considering whether to institute new rules after reports of fighting, biting and scratching out by the dogs but by dog owners. police say there have been two recent incidents at the park in which a 69-year-old woman scratched and bit a 37-year-old man. they were trying to break up an argument between the women and another dog owner. one of the rules would put a cap on the number of people and dogs allowed upper part at any

third city in north america to host this exhibit. >> music is something that feels right when it's their mac so coming up here and coming and having a different mindset. >> reporter: from this high school student plane prelude in g. minor to this homeless man playing the nonmeat each piano is drawing a range of people and sounds. some inspect the instrument in some show off there fancy finger work and some are plain piano for their first time. >> the goal behind the project is to place pianos in community meeting places where people might not otherwise have a reason to speak to each other. >> which is what we found that these two men which just met. >> i am kind of a hermit. i don't know that many people. i played a piano and people come around and not only is this one of the greatest ideas
